Evening Star 3 original wartime cartoon artworks (1940s) drawn with two signed by illustrator Leslie Grimes
Leslie Grimes (1898-1983) became a commercial artist after serving in the Royal Flying Corps during the first World War. He designed tube posters for the Ministry of Labour and London County Council and contributed numerous sketches to The Motor Cycle. In 1927 he joined The Star as a political cartoonist, taking over from David Low, and he created the hugely successful 'All my own Work' cartoon series for the paper in 1938. Grimes used to draw with Conte chalk, sitting on the floor, using the side of the chalk for shading

Eric Parker was a prolific British illustrator best known for painting the covers of Sexton Blake Library which he did for over thirty years. He had a detailed knowledge of military history and served in WWI in Military Intelligence producing propaganda illustrations directed at the Home Front. As a freelance illustrator in 1949 Parker worked on Amalgamated Press titles Sun and Comet drawing the Happy Hussar stories of the Napoleonic Wars, Horatio Nelson and Claude Duval adventures. He illustrated many editions of Cowboy Picture Library and Thriller Picture Library and also drew the covers for The Soldier, the official magazine of the British Army amongst many other commissions.
