John Worsley (1919-2000) was in the navy during WWII. Taken prisoner, he and a fellow officer constructed an astonishingly life-like dummy to help in their escape plan. After the war he was appointed adviser on the famous war film Albert RN, which tells the true story of this remarkable feat. John Worsley was a well established marine artist and portrait painter. As well as PC49 he illustrated many childrens’ books including Black Beauty, Robinson Crusoe and Treasure Island.
