Ally Sloper metal Cigar Lighter (c.1890s)
Reg design no. 201221. Measuring 4 ins high and made from hollow cast metal, this was probably an Ally Sloper's Half-Holiday competition prize. The taper is stored within the piece and the head unscrews from the body. The assumption is, that having been lit, 'Ally Sloper' was passed around at parties to light diners' cigars. Rare

Eagle/Dan Dare original cover preparatory artwork (1958) by Don Harley for The Eagle Vol. 9. No 49 Phantom Fleet episode. Known as 'Colour Visuals' there are only a few preparatory artwork surviving examples, their full and precise initial detail often as good as the actual finished artwork. Also note that the ‘For Pete’s Sake, Look, Sir!’ word balloon was deleted for the finished artwork, probably due to Frank Hampson’s strong religious beliefs. This colour visual is reprinted in Hawk Books No 8 (1993) 'The Phantom Fleet' which is included in this lot along with the original Eagle comic
